Chat and dating in the Moselle, along the vines

The Moselle is more than Metz. In the north, the Moselle valley stretches towards Luxembourg, lined with small vine-covered slopes, fortified villages and surprising castles. A discreet département, perfect for anyone who enjoys quiet escapes far from the usual tourist routes.

Sierck vines and the banks of the Moselle

At the very north of the département, around Sierck-les-Bains and Contz-les-Bains, the small Moselle vineyard produces lively white wines: Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Elbling. The slopes drop gently to the river Moselle, which winds between barges. A walk through the vine rows, a tasting with a winegrower and a meal on a shaded terrace make for a simple, elegant date, in a Franco-Luxembourgish atmosphere.

Fortified villages and Malbrouck Castle

Listed among the most beautiful villages of France, Rodemack is nicknamed the little Carcassonne of Lorraine, with its ramparts, porches and wall walk. Nearby, Malbrouck Castle, a handsome restored fifteenth-century fortress, hosts major exhibitions each year. On the edge of the Vosges, the award-winning village of Saint-Quirin and its baroque priory are worth the detour. A quiet loop of stones, forests and conversations stitched together step by step.

The Lorraine Park and Lake Madine

For fresh air, the Lorraine Regional Nature Park spreads over much of the western département, with ponds, forests and well-kept villages. Just beyond, in neighbouring Meuse, Lake Madine is a favourite with Mosellans for sailing, swimming and cycling around the water. On Lyad, Mosellan singles share their green itineraries; it is up to you to find someone to draw the next bend with.
